{Newborn} Cruz Antony

It is not very often (at all!) that I've had the privilege of doing a newborn session with the couple's first baby. So many of my friends (and referrals) have had their second or subsequent baby, so there is usually at least one toddler running around. I especially loved the peacefulness of this session as a little change from my 'norm.'

Aside from that, this was another basically-family-to-me session, as Jordan is the youngest brother to Corrie (you can see Jord & Vanessa in the ceremony and family pictures). I may have had a bit of an inside scoop as to when Van went into labor and I held back to text her until 12(ish) hours after Cruz was born, to see if I could come and photograph the new family of three.

Seriously, what an awesome session. I have never met such laid back parents as Jord and Van, let alone first-time parents - it was amazing! Van assured me that Cruz would sleep the entire time as he was only 5 days old and, well, that's what newborns do. So we photographed his very sleepy face with his parents for a good while. After a few feedings, he decided to wake up, show his eyes and stay awake while I tried to do some shots of just him. And sometimes, that's just how it goes. It doesn't mean the pictures didn't turn out great, it's just that he was awake for the ones I thought he'd be sleeping for!

Congratulations, Jord & Van - Cruz is amazing, fantastic, super cute and you two are incredible parents already! Can't wait to watch him grow up :)

{Maternity} David & Erin

I met this sweet little family on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon at the beach. Our boys are close in age, so we swapped notes and stories about life with a nearly-four-year-old. And Tim lived up to that "boyish" standard of being on the move and not very interested in looking into a lens, so we worked with it. I could not get enough of his long eyelashes - does it seem to anyone else that boys seem to be blessed with those naturally long and gorgeous lashes?

I found out that both David and Erin are commercial airline pilots and while that can be a busy, stressful and away-from-home job, it seems they've got a pretty good system worked out so they're not away for very long at once.

Since our session, they've welcomed a second son - congratulations!

Thanks for letting me follow you around the beach on such a lovely day to capture your growing family; I hope you are finding a groove with two boys to take care of!

{Family} Devon & Lindsay

I met up with Devon, Lindsay and their three girls on a beautiful morning in Fort Langley and was immediately delighted with the bright colors that the girls were wearing! They just had such a spring look to them and that was much like their personalities too.

Being 10, Taylor was right into getting her picture taken which makes things really easy for me, but she really had this healthy confidence about herself that shone through her pictures. Ella, 5, has gorgeous dark hair and eyes and seemed the most quiet of the bunch (though I know that having a stranger take your picture can be intimidating!). Mackenzie was a total 3-year-old, on the move and rarin' to go; no cough or runny nose slowed her down - fun energy in that girl!

Devon and Lindsay were super relaxed and that always makes a session go well; less stress is less mess :) I always have fun getting just the parents in some pictures - and looking at each other - because as parents of young kids, it's hard to slow down and just look at each other. So sometimes the couple just laughs out of the unfamiliarity of it, but I love taking the opportunity to provide even just a moment to connect face to face.

Thanks for joining me at Fort Langley and allowing me to do your photos - I really enjoyed our time together - what a beautiful family!
