{Newborn} Sophie

Very shortly after Sophie was born, we met up at the studio to get some pictures of this new family of five together and for Sophie to get some time the spotlight too! We managed to get some great pictures, but Sophie was wide awake the entire session (which seems to be a trend with me!) so we arranged for me to go to their house another day. It worked out perfectly that the oldest two kids played outside with my two kids while Kate put Sophie to sleep and then I snapped away. It was amazingly wonderful. It was the first newborn session I'd ever done at a client's home and it was so relaxed!

Hope you enjoy these pictures of this gorgeous little girl!

{Birth} Sophie

Anyone still out there? Sorry it's been so long since my last post, but there should be a few more coming up in the next couple of weeks finally.

This fantastic family had me do maternity, birth and newborn photos for them and I was thrilled. It was the first birth I've ever been at (other than my own, obviously) and it was such an honor to be asked to be there and document such an amazing miracle!

This May 10th birthday was not an easy birth at all. The baby's skull was hitting Kate's tailbone for every contraction, resulting in awful back labor. The plan was to have the baby at home in water with the midwife there (the same midwife who delivered my son, so that was exciting!) and after laboring at home all morning, by early afternoon, Kate was ready to head to the hospital.

I drove them there and after checking in, started an IV on her (she practically did it herself...she's a nurse!) and got some fentynol into her system. It didn't help much and it continued to be a very tough labor for the couple hours we were at the hospital before Sophie's arrival. It was a wild experience to watch a baby being born! It's something I'd love to do again, someday, though the time commitment and need to be readily available for a birth is very difficult.

I hope you enjoy these pictures - there were tons to choose from and some fantastic ones of Sophie nursing (she was a champ!), but I had to narrow it down. Six weeks later and I still smile when I see her, remembering her entrance, and I can't wait to watch her grow up! Newborn photos to come soon.
